John Kao, Chairman and CEO
Kao portrait Dubbed "Mr. Creativity" and "a serial innovator" by The Economist , Dr. John Kao describes his job description as "instigator of new things."  He is considered a leading authority on the subjects of innovation, organizational transformation, and digital media. He is author of the best-selling Jamming: The Art and Discipline of Business Creativity, a BusinessWeek best-seller that has been published in a dozen languages, and Innovation Nation , published in October, 2007. 
By training, Dr. Kao has a BA from Yale College, an MD from Yale Medical School, and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He taught at HBS from 1982-96, where he specialized in innovation and entrepreneurship. He has also held faculty appointments at the MIT Media Lab, Yale College, and the US Naval Postgraduate School.

Dr. Kao's new book, Innovation Nation , describes the challenges America faces in attempting to reinvent its innovation edge at a time in which many nations are racing towards a new high ground shaped by innovation.


Laura Weiss, President
Kao portrait Ms Weiss joined Kao & Company in June 2008. Previously she spent nine years with world-renowned design consultancy IDEO in a variety of leadership positions. She co-founded IDEO's Service Design practice and was a principal of IDEO's Software Experiences practice leadership team where she oversaw programs in service design. Before her work at IDEO, Ms Weiss was a consultant with Integral, Inc, a Cambridge, MA-based management consulting firm specializing in innovation management.

In addition to her management experience, Ms Weiss is a registered architect with extensive experience as a designer and project manager for a variety of cultural and institutional facilities. She has held teaching positions in architectural design at Cornell, Yale, and the University of Virginia, and has taught managerial communications at MIT. She holds an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management, an MArch from Yale University, and a BArch with honors from Cornell University.


Lance Knobel, Managing Director
Lance portrait In 2001-02, Mr. Knobel was Adviser, Prime Minister's Strategy Unit, London, Tony Blair's Downing Street think tank that examines medium- and long-range strategic issues. He was involved in work on science and technology policy, energy security and speculative work examining truly long-range challenges for the UK. From 1992-2000 he was Editor-in-Chief and Director of the Programme for the World Economic Forum. He has degrees from Princeton University and Oxford University.

Lesley Evers, Graphic Recorder
Lesley Evers is an Ivy League-educated artist who turned her talents to graphic recording eight years ago and is now one of the most sought-after individuals in the field.
